MEDICAL MASSAGE THERAPY
12 Credits
Medical massage differs from traditional massage. It targets a specific medical condition as part of the physician's treatment plan, and is prescribed for numerous diagnoses. It will show the importance of understanding risk factors to the therapist, and implementing precautionary measures. Learning that medical massage therapy can reduce symptoms of soft tissue pain is significant to understand. Instructor will explain contraindications of Medical Massage Therapy. Students will learn the pertinence of showing sensitivity when addressing a suspected medical problem to their client, as well as the benefits of Medical Massage Therapy.
BODY MINDÂ CONNECTION
12 Credits
Our body mind connection class has been created to provide you with knowledge in a unique approach. It is the understanding of how your brain’s activity of thoughts and emotions have a direct effect on your physical wellness. We have all heard stories of how people have helped heal themselves through happy and positive thoughts. Our bodies react and respond to our way of thinking, acting, and feeling. Recognizing that the brain and nervous system are always in communication with the rest of our body at all times educates us as to the various therapies which are useful to encourage a healthy mind. This, in turn, affects the body in a positive manner. Some of the therapies used for body mind connection are meditation, breathing exercises, and many others.
Therapists will come to understand all the benefits of taking care of our emotional states to ensure a healthier body.
BUILDING A SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS
12 Credits
Most of us, at one time or other, have dreamed of owning our own successful business. This course will show how to structure a professional plan to incorporate all your business needs. You will learn the steps necessary for building a successful business, including how to determine what type of corporation fits your needs, licensing, and tax procedure. We will also review best practices for billing, services, and customer relations. Learning various marketing strategies to help grow your business and increase clientele will be demonstrated. Networking and advertising will prove to be vital to grow and maintain your successful business.
PROPER BODY MECHANICS
12 Credits
It is essential to use Proper Body Mechanics for the stamina and maintenance for the longevity of a massage therapist’s career. This course will integrate the essential techniques for the massage therapist to use during the client's appointment to increase stamina, build flexibility, and maintain endurance throughout the massage. This class will insure therapists understand and recognize that technique is something imperative to learn and apply to their routine. Students will make a change in their standards about how the massage is employed. The human body is designed for movement and range of motion, not for the compressive forces required when giving a massage, therefore, appropriate body mechanics must be effectively maintained to provide adequate pressure throughout the massage. This class will share effective use of massage techniques, which has a direct correlation to the longevity of their career. After taking this class, massage therapists will have learned to effectively massage clients without excessive fatigue or pain, in addition to learning ways to care for their hands.
REFLEXOLOGY
12 Credits
The benefits of Reflexology and the positive impact it can make on a client's daily life are what therapists will come to understand throughout this course. Massage therapists will recognize that 80% of all pain is muscular; therefore throughout this course, massage therapists will learn techniques that work specifically to relieve muscular tension. Therapists will also facilitate a variety of procedures to promote the circulation to the muscles. In addition, students will recognize the importance of the nervous system in addition to stimulating the release of endorphins to help pain relief. Using reflexology will help a variety of conditions such as: stress, digestive problems, breathing disorders and respiratory problems, Nasal congestion, sinusitis and hay fever, Emotional troubles, High blood pressure, Fertility issues, Bereavement, Children’s health, or trauma. Massage therapists will understand that skin conditions will benefit from the balancing of the hormones and improvement in the circulation, which is mastered through reflexology.
A DAY OF HEADACHE, NECK AND BACK PAIN
12 Credits
A day of Headache, Neck and Back Pain will provide the therapist with many benefits of stress relief on these upper areas of the body for their clients. This type of pain can become debilitating if left untreated. Sharing the importance of being able to properly treat headaches and neck pain is essential, which will be the purpose for facilitating this course. The goal is for therapists to be able to explain different assessment and treatment methods for clients suffering from these. Additionally, students will learn to present the client with the most effective approach to enhance their client's everyday life.
